The first thing you notice when listening to Cris Jacobs is his voice – Silky smooth and effortless with a nicely seasoned range. It meshes well with his top notch guitar playing, whether it’s acoustic, electric, or cigar box slide. He has always shown an eclectic flavor in his music, from Blues, Jazz, Country, even Western Swing and it always sounds good to these ears. “Dust to Gold” is no exception, continuing Cris’ perfected blend of soulful ballads, jazzy funk, and Rootsy Blues Rock. Standout tracks are “The Devil and Jesse James” an uptempo, funky Blues Rocker and the autobiographical ballad, “Leaving Charm City” that refers to his hometown of Baltimore in which he escapes its’ Beltway Boundary and ventures out into the world. Also check out his work with Baltimore based “The Bridge” and start with “Blind Man’s Hill.” Well worth the journey.
